Aluminum Railing and the Avoidance of Rust

A railing is not something anyone wants to worry about in terms of safety. Whether the railing is for a stairwell, a balcony, or the front steps, the railing must be able to handle enough stress and weight so as to provide stability for those who rely on the railing for safety.

However, when one thinks of a metal that is a preferred metal for railing durability, one usually thinks of iron. And true, iron is an incredibly durable metal that can provide tremendous stability and safety when utilized for the purpose of manufacturing railing.

Aluminum is also a very safe and durable metal. Aluminum railing has a huge benefit, however, that iron does not have a claim to: aluminum railing does not rust. And who wants to be cut by a rusty railing? Not me.

Rust occurs when iron comes in contact with water and oxygen and starts to corrode. And, when iron starts to rust, the rust does not leave its corrosive harm on the surface of the metal. Rust will corrode iron all the way from one end to the other. Or, in more precise terms, if left to its own devices, the iron will continue to corrode until all that is left is nothing but a huge pile of rust.

Aluminum railing will not suffer that description when it comes to corrosion. This does not mean that aluminum railing (or aluminum in any shape or form) will not suffer from corrosion. However, one thing separates aluminum corrosion from other forms of metal corrosion: the surface of aluminum can form a built in surface protection from the corrosion, keeping it from corroding beyond a certain point. This ultimately maintains the integrity of the aluminum railing and does not make it a pawn to the games of rust corrosion. That alone allows this railing to pay its own costs many times over.
